HELICONE REACTORS / MIXERS & BLENDERS
The Helicone Reactor/Mixer by Design Integrated Technology,
Inc. (DIT) has been in production for over 40 years and come in
three models: the CV (Cone Vertical), SC (Single Cone), and SCB
(Single Cone Blenders). The Helicones are highly efficient, single
and multi-agitator mixers that lend themselves to a variety of applications
utilized in many industries. Over 117 products have been patented
using Helicone mixers. These mixers typically outperform traditional
horizontal and vertical designs by reducing mixing time as much
as 75%, resulting in large savings for you, the customer. Both
the CV and SC are low speed, medium shear style reactors. The SCB
was specifically designed for dry powder blending and mixing
low to moderate viscosity slurries.
The CV model has a unique mixing principle using intersecting
dual helical-conical blades that intermesh throughout the conical
envelope of the bowl. It is designed to mix up to 12 million
cps. High viscosity polymerization and condensation reactions
are routinely accomplished in CV mixers.
The SC model is a single conical design using two, separately
driven blades. The outer blade consists of two helical-conical flights,
180° opposed. The inner blade is a positive screw auger for
mixing and lifting or discharging via its pumping action. The SC
blades are designed to rotate independently, same direction or counter-rotate.
Other blade configurations can be used in place of the inner auger
such as a dispersion blade or high shear emulsifier head. The SC
is designed to mix up to 3 million cps.
The SCB model is based on the same mixing principles as
the SC Mixer, except the SCB incorporates two helical-conical ribbons
in place of the heavier cast outer blades of the SC. Typically both
blades are mounted on the same shaft allowing them to simultaneously
lift product from the bottom to the top in axial and radial directions,
this results in short blending/mix cycles at a much lower cost.
All of our mixers and blenders are capable of top loading and bottom
discharging. Options may include full vacuum, pressure and temperature
control, and variable blade speed. The powerful downward pumping
action of the CV and SC blades can forcibly extrude strands or full
port discharge viscous materials. All models can be used as pre-mixers
in a continuous process line to feed extruders. If you are encountering
bridging problems feeding an extruder dry powders or mixing multi-density
dry materials, the SC Blender can usually resolve these dilemmas.
One of the most important features of our line of Helicones is
the ability to accurately scale-up your recipe from small
laboratory to large-scale production. The CV also has the unique
ability to allow you to scale-up your recipes and conditions from
a small batch mixer to a twin-screw extruder.
DIT offers a wide range of accessories and options such as data
acquisition and control, bottom discharge valves, etc. DIT also
manufactures the Magnum style of mixers such as hydrofoil,
paddle, propeller, high shear, anchor, or Sigma as well as being
a full service ASME pressure vessel code shop.
